Copper Sinks - Your Guide to a Better Kitchen.

In the summer of 1996, an IRA bomb went off in the middle of Manchester City Centre. Thankfully, the police had received plenty of warning that a bomb had been planted, so nobody was seriously injured. However, the bomb caused £700 million damage to the city’s infrastructure and a lot of buildings were badly damaged. One major Manchester landmark that had been effected was the Royal Exchange theatre, a grade II listed Victorian building.

My dad, now retired, worked in demolition and waste recycling and won the tender to clean up the centre including the Royal Exchange. In the theatre, there was a lot of stuff to empty from the building, and my dad was told to leave certain rooms but gut the rest of the rooms. In one room, there was complete chaos and the only object to make it in one piece was an old Victorian copper kitchen sink. It caught my Dad’s eye and he took it to the theatre owner who agreed he could keep the sink.

When I got home from work that evening, he turned up with this sink. I was wondering what on earth he had for me, but when I saw it, I fell in love. My dad knew I was in the middle of a kitchen refurb and knew some of fittings including a sink were still yet to be chosen but I was thinking of a Belfast sink. kitchen sink The sink was antique, which gave it a unique look, but it was so hardy that it looked as good as new and incredible beautiful. The inside of the bowl had a delicate symmetrical star motifs and rolled rim. It had come from France in the 1890s but my Dad was convinced it was older. My dad installed it into my kitchen and it is now a fully functioning kitchen sink. Copper sink aren’t the first choice for a kitchen sink, but they should be, I am potty about them. They’re full of charm and character and my sink creates a big stir whenever guests are around.
